The firm was founded in 1997 by DANIEL VERGARA, a Licensed Architect with over 25 years of diversified international experience in all areas of architecture, planning and interiors.
Mr. Vergara received a Bachelor of Architecture and Planning degree from the University of Uruguay where he was Professor of Architectural and Urban Design for five years.
Upon graduation he was selected by open competition to become Architect in charge of design and construction of public educational buildings.
In 1985, after winning the UNESCO-ROSTLAC SCHOLARSHIP he moved to California to attend the Master of Architecture and Urban Design program at UCLA, where he was a recipient of the WELTON BECKET AWARD and the GRADUATE DIVISION FELLOWSHIP.
After working as a Project Architect for several high profile offices, in 1996 Mr. Vergara followed his passion for socially responsible architecture becoming Architectural Director of LACDC (Los Angeles Community Design Center), a non profit architecture, planning and housing development firm which works with local community groups to accomplish socially beneficial projects in low income neighborhoods.
Mr. Vergara has lectured on urban issues at the AIA (American Institute of Architects) and written architectural criticism for EDGES, its magazine.
Finnally in 1997, with the purchase of a fixer in Mar Vista and a sign outside the door, VERGARAarchitects was born.
